We offer personalized cancer immunotherapy
- the fourth
cancer treatment -

using your own immune cells with enhanced immune surveillance capabilities against cancer

Until now, cancer treatment has been centered around three main approaches: surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Each of these treatments holds important significance and will continue to be indispensable in future cancer treatment.

However, these treatments aim to eliminate cancer from outside the body, and each comes with side effects and potential complications.

In contrast, immunotherapy works by enhancing the natural immune system that each individual possesses, aiming to cure disease from within the body. This is based on a completely different concept from conventional cancer treatments.

In 2011, Dr. Ralph M. Steinman was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of dendritic cells, and in 2018, Dr. Honjo Tasuku received the Nobel Prize for his development of anti-PD-1 antibody drugs—a type of immunotherapy. As a result, immunotherapy has come to be known as “the fourth cancer treatment".

Furthermore, various studies have shown that even in the case of the traditional three treatments, the presence or absence of immune function can significantly affect treatment outcomes.

There are two main types of immunotherapy.
One is therapy that prevents the suppression of immune responses—this involves the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as anti-PD-1 antibody drugs.
The other is therapy that enhances the immune system itself, known as immune cell therapy.

At our clinic, we provide the latter: immune cell therapy.
Immunotherapy is not in opposition to conventional treatments. Regardless of the type of treatment one receives, enhancing immune function is essential, as it is believed to further improve the effectiveness of traditional therapies.

The immunotherapy we offer has no significant side effects and places no restrictions on the number of treatments or timing.

Moreover, it is administered on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to make the most of their time and maintain their daily routines.

At our clinic, physicians with extensive experience in both internal medicine and surgical oncology take the time to speak thoroughly with each patient, ensuring full understanding and consent before proceeding with treatment.

We hope that each individual can live their life in a way that is true to themselves.

Cancer Immunotherapy Q&A

  • Q Is there individual variation in the duration of cell cultivation?

There is not a large difference, but generally, therapeutic cells proliferate over about three weeks. However, there is some individual variation, so it is important to create a treatment plan based on the cultivation status. At the Osaka Iseikai Cancer and Neurological Disease Treatment Clinic, we have an in-house cultivation facility, allowing us to carefully determine the optimal timing for returning the cells to the patient’s body.

  • Q Do all patients in the terminal stage of cancer develop ascites (abdominal fluid buildup)?

Not all terminal cancer patients develop ascites. It typically occurs when cancer cells spread to the abdominal area, resulting in cancerous peritonitis. However, ascites can also develop due to impaired liver function. It is important to check whether cancer cells are present in the ascitic fluid before deciding whether to perform intraperitoneal immunotherapy.

  • Q Is T-lymphocyte therapy effective even in terminal cases with metastasis or progression?

There was a 2007 European journal report that showed combining chemotherapy with immunotherapy improved efficacy in animal studies. Therefore, we strongly recommend combining immunotherapy with chemotherapy whenever possible.
